THE CHILD'S LANGUAGE JOURNEY: FROM RECEPTION, TO PRODUCTION, TO COMMUNICATION
Language is crucial to a young child’s development: for communicating, for building relationships and for making sense of the world. As Loris Malaguzzi said, “There are infinite ways that children can express, explore and connect their thoughts, feelings and imaginings.” In this webinar, we’ll follow this beautiful journey, and look at ways we can help and support children in acquiring a rich and diverse language skill set. By using age appropriate input and careful scaffolding, we can strengthen children’s spoken output and guide them towards confidence and autonomy.

Scaffolding for Success
Learning a new language is inherently challenging, and building students’ confidence is essential if they are to thrive in the learning environment. A key approach in developing confidence is scaffolding - breaking learning into chunks and providing guidance on how to apply skills and strategies for completing tasks successfully.
This session examines how a scaffolded approach contributes to successful learning by helping students to develop positive attitudes and feel comfortable experimenting with language. We will explore practical ways in which teachers can scaffold classroom tasks to guarantee success for every student, by building confidence in enjoyable and meaningful ways.

Errors are a natural and expected part of language learning. It can be hard to know which errors should be corrected, when to correct them, who should correct them or how they should be corrected. The way you handle error correction can determine whether a mistake becomes a learning opportunity or whether it hinders learning.
