The MENA PD ACADEMY by Macmillan Education team are committed to supporting English language teachers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in their quest of Advancing Learning, through professional development (PD) activities that are relevant, accessible and embedded in their everyday teaching practice.

WHAT ARE OUR
BITE-SIZED PD MODULES?
​
​
​
Our PD modules are designed to be bite-sized, easily accessible, and embedded in your everyday teaching practice. They are built around a reflective cycle, starting with a baseline self-assessment, input in the form of readings and a webinar, practical activities in your teaching context, collaboration tasks (where possible), and finally a reflective task. Upon completion you will receive a certificate of participation from the MENA PD Academy, as well as personal feedback on any submissions you have made throughout the module. And, best of all, they are completely free!

Join one of our current live modules (studying in a group often has added benefits, as we know), or choose a self-study module that interests you and develop at your own time and pace. It's totally up to you! If you choose a self-study module you can still receive a certificate of completion after submitting your final reflective task. Jump to our current modules below:

WHY JOIN A LIVE PD MODULE?

There are many advantages of joining our live modules, including:

- step-by-step guidance from the module leader (including an optional 'one-on-one' coaching session!)
- receive individualised, personal feedback on all submissions (not just the final assignment)
- collaborate and discuss the topic with likeminded teachers (who are also based here in MENA)
in the online classroom forum

USING PROJECT-BASED
LEARNING IN THE YOUNG LEARNER CLASSROOM
Module: LIVE (duration: 6 weeks)
Projects are one of the best ways to engage young learners in English language learning (in our opinion). However, they are not always easy to set up and manage. So, how can we use them to best effect and get our students using English in rich and meaningful ways?
In this interactive, bite-size PD module you will...
- set a baseline for your current ideas and approach (30min)
- be provided with a variety of readings on the topic (30min)
- watch a live webinar related to the topic (1hr)
- receive support to design practical activities to enact changes in your
teaching context (60-90mins)
- reflect upon your learning activities to complete the module (30min)

ADVANCING THINKING SKILLS WITH TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS
Module: LIVE (duration: 6 weeks)
Developing students critical thinking skills are often cited as being one of the most challenging aspects for teachers in MENA. There are lots of webinars explaining what critical thinking 'is' (how many times have you seen Bloom's Taxonomy?), but we feel like often there isn't a matching level of support for how to actually translate that into practice, as well as how and where other forms of thinking affect what goes on during the learning process.

SELF-STUDY MODULES

WHY JOIN A SELF-STUDY MODULE?

There are many advantages of joining our self-access, self-study modules, including:
​
- engage with the material in your own time at your own pace
- receive personal feedback on your final submissions and a certificate of completion
- see summaries of assignments by other participants (this might also give you new ideas!)
Below you will find our self-study modules, along with a link to be able to register.

You do not need to register for self-study modules. Just click 'start now' to access the content and work at your own pace. Note: you will need to register as a member of the MENA PD Academy to access these modules. When you submit the final reflection (using the online form) we will automatically see your submission and will be in contact with you via email within 15 working days with your certificate of completion and any feedback.
